Hi, I’m Diane Claire Benant.
I’ve always loved writing. Aged 11, I wrote my first novel, Ella at Drama School, about a 16 year old British girl who goes to study in New York. (Clearly I was not writing what I knew.) As a teenager, however, I was never published in the school magazine and my English O-level missed the top mark so, as the years passed, I told myself I wasn’t a writer.
I re-embarked on writing in my mid-20s. But finding the time around a full-time marketing career was not easy. My next attempt was a Mills & Boon, the plot of which depended on a flight from Paris to London. By the time I’d finished the book, the Channel Tunnel had been built. (This is true).
It wasn’t until I reached my 30s that I realised what I wanted to write. By then, I’d discovered that life was a little less neat than I’d previously thought. I wanted to write smart, easy-reading novels for women that reflected this – curl-up-in-bed books that had a bit more to them.
I’m very excited to have at last published my début novel, Just Jenna. And I already have the title for the second (a good start!) Thank you very much for your interest in me and my work and I hope you enjoy it.
